Record year for Diversity

We can celebrate a great year for women in Aotearoa’s public life . A Government stocktake has established that the highest ever percentage of women nearly 49 per cent are on Government boards and committees.
This Government is nearly there in achieving its target of 50 per cent representation.
For Māori, we still have a way to go. 22 per cent of all people being appointed were Māori. However, the appointment rate shows that in terms of governance we are becoming a more diverse country.   I can only echo the Minister for Women Julie Ann Genter who said “Diverse boards are more likely to be effective, make better quality decisions, and be better able to understand the people they serve. Good governance is crucial to New Zealand’s future decisions.”
